Modern culture manifests a serious and undeniable disconnect into its populace. The constant distraction of our society, the linear, debilitating, stringent teaching process of the “education system”, the inherent fallacy of popular religion, the broken politics, the constant sensationalism of violence and sexuality, the laws that blatantly exist only for somebody who isn’t us to garner profit, the inherent truisms of what you’re “supposed to do” when you become an adult such as going to college, getting a job, getting drunk, getting pregnant, getting a car, paying bills, paying taxes, starting a family, going to church; they all play their own role in priming the collective subconscious of the Western world. The sheer density of the various processes and tangible manifestations of modern culture make it almost impossible to see beyond it and understand that it is all merely an illusion, and that there is something so much more important, so much more beautiful, and so much more real that has absolutely nothing to do with the anything external whatsoever.

Your television will never tell you to slow down, close your eyes and find your Self. Your television will never tell you to spend more time cultivating love and profound wisdom in your life so that you may help others do the same. Your television will never ask you if you really do need more clothes, if you really do need a new smart-phone, if you really do need a bigger television, if you really do need to dye your hair, if you really do need more fast-food, if you really do need to get drunk tonight; it will simply tell you that you do. Your television will never ask you to consider positive and thoughtful, important ideas; it will merely tell you that you do in fact need to go get more stuff, and then watch more television, that you need more. Because having stuff and watching television makes “you” feel “good”.

Years ago advertising campaigns used to be subtle and even subliminal, but they don’t even have to be anymore as Americans have become desensitized and so far away from their True selves that it actually doesn’t bother consumers when Coca-Cola refers to itself as “Love” and McDonalds refers to itself as “Happiness”. You can rationalize to yourself that you “know” Coca-Cola isn’t “love” and that McDonalds isn’t “happiness” and those companies are well aware of that. What they’re also aware of is the millions of dollars that have been spent on psychological research that has taught them that even if the people they’re marketing to “know” that their product isn’t Love or Happiness itself, so long as they simply tell you that it is, it is your subconscious that will learn it, store it, and it is the collective subconscious that drives the United States of America. The United States are simply asleep behind the wheel; the train is careening into a dark and endless abyss, and we’re updating our Facebook status. If this weren’t true, your television would be on the curb and you’d be lying in the grass staring at the clouds pondering the meaning of existence. Why is there anything at all? Who tricked you into thinking that you don’t care or that it doesn’t matter if you ever know? How did this happen to us?
